The Norwich Sea Captains are please to announce that 2002 defenseman Matthew Ward has signed a contract with the club for their inaugural season in the North American 3 Hockey League. The Milford, CT native returns to the Nutmeg State after a stint with the Tahoe Hockey Academy, members of the North American Prospects Hockey League, during the 2019-20 season. Ward is a smooth skating two-way defenseman with a high compete level. Prior to his time in California, Ward was a member of the Notre Dame (Fairfield) Lancers high school program competing in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference. He played his youth hockey with the Southern Connecticut Stars.

“I am excited to join a new junior team in my home state. I am looking forward to having a fun and rewarding season with the Sea Captains,” said Ward.

Head Coach Kevin Cunningham is thrilled to add Ward to the defensive corps. He commented, “Matthew is a player who I have always enjoyed watching compete over the years. He has a fluid and efficient stride, makes good decisions with the puck and has a desire to win that is contagious. He will be a great addition to our inaugural team in Norwich, and it is pretty cool to add another Connecticut native to our roster!”

Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, October 13 when they host the Danbury Jr Hat Tricks at the RoseGarden Ice Arena at noon. Tickets for all remaining home games can be purchased HERE.
