The Norwich Sea Captains are pleased to announce that 2004 defenseman Tony Morran has signed with the club for their inaugural season in the North American 3 Hockey League. The Boca Raton, FL native played for the Palm Beach Hawks 16UAA team the past two seasons. The smooth skating defenseman makes excellent decisions with the puck and can positively impact the game in a variety of ways with his skills and smarts. Last season Morran served as an alternate captain with the Hawks. Before his family relocated to Florida Morran played for the Atlanta Phoenix.
“I chose to sign with Norwich to be a part of a new program with good coaching. I plan to take advantage of all the resources offered to me and my teammates in Norwich to maximize my development and advance to the next step in my hockey career,” commented Morran on his decision.
Head coach Kevin Cunningham shared his excitement about Morran’s addition saying, “I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Tony at the CCM Showcase this past May and I was very impressed with his skills and smarts on the ice immediately. Tony is a smooth skater who knows how to use his speed and elusiveness to excel on the breakout as well as make a significant offensive contribution to his team. I am looking forward to working closely with Tony to help him continue his growth. He loves the game of hockey more than most. I have a lot of confidence that with his ability and potential coupled with his passion for the game that he will set himself up well for his hockey future this season.”
The Norwich Sea Captains are poised to begin their inaugural season in the NA3HL. The team begins practice on Tuesday, September 7 and opens their season on Saturday, September 25 when they travel to play the Long Beach Sharks. The team is looking for billet families interested in hosting some of our players.
