Sea Captains Fall to Titans

Nov 6, 2021

The Norwich Sea Captains dropped a decision to the visiting New Jersey Titans 3-1 on Saturday evening, November 6 at the RoseGarden Ice Arena. Norwich held a significant shot advantage throughout the game with the final shot tally reading 53 to 26 in favor of the home side, but the offensive was not able to get on track.

Roland Ponechal snuck a rebound by Norwich netminder Andrew Yocum on the power play 4;24 into play to give the Titans an early lead. New Jersey extended their lead on the strength of a second period goal from Teito Ishigaki before Josh Manahan netted his first NA3HL goal when he drove a rebound of a Trevor Souza shot home with 1:01 remaining in the middle period.

The Sea Captains put a ton of pressure on Titans goaltender Colin Freitas throughout the third period peppering him with 20 shits, but he was able to keep the offensive attack at bay. With twelve seconds left, and Norwich’s goalie pulled for the extra attacker, Noah Scherff’s clear eluded all six Sea Captains on the ice and found the empty net.

Head coach Kevin Cunningham praised the efforts of Freitas and his teammates saying, “Their goaltender was a major factor in today’s game. I was pleased with our ability to consistently get scoring chances, particularly in the third period, but the Titans found a way to keep us off the scoreboard and earned the win.”
