Sea Captains Fall to Bobcats

Nov 21, 2021

The Norwich Sea Captains’ third period struggles continued Sunday afternoon, November 21 when they saw a two goal lead evaporate in the third period of a 3-2 loss to the Bay State Bobcats in North American 3 Hockey League play. Bay State goaltender Braeden Bovey was very strong in net and Bobcat forwards Landon Boothe and Tima Basarab recorded three points to power the hosts to victory.

Teagen Beir opened the scoring 3:18 into the second period when he finished a beautiful passing play from Jack Kinahan to Cam Hultin to Beier at the back door for a 1-0 lead. Norwich continued to pressure Bovey in the Bay State cage, but could not solve him again until there was 1:04 left in the middle period when Ethan Ranger snuck a puck in on the short side from a sharp angle to extend the Sea Captains’ lead. Tim Hayden assisted on Ranger’s tally. Unfortunately, that would mark the end of the Norwich scoring for the day while Bay State scored three unanswered goals in the final twenty minutes to seal the win.

“The third period was disappointing today. I felt that we had positioned ourselves well and had played a strong game through 40 minutes. We beat ourselves on two faceoff plays and then a turnover that led to Bay State rush. To their credit, they did not miss the opportunities to capitalize on our mistakes. However, I have a lot of confidence in the young men in our locker room. I believe in each and every one of them. We are going to break out of this slump and when we do I have the wholeheartedly belief that we will go on a good run. Until that time we will continue to put in the work as a group to breakthrough,” commented head coach Kevin Cunningham.

The Sea Captains host the Northeast Generals on Tuesday afternoon, November 23 at noon at the RoseGarden Ice Arena in their final game before the Thanksgiving holiday break. Tickets for Tuesday’s game and all other remaining home games can be purchased HERE.
