Sea Captains Blanked by Titans

Mar 6, 2023

The Norwich Sea Captains fell to the New Jersey Titans 3-0 in their North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) regular season finale on Saturday evening, March 4 at the RoseGarden Ice Arena. The Titans penalty kill was a critical factor throughout the game as the Sea Captains’ power play was stymied in all eleven attempts that they had in the game.

For the second day in a row Norwich and New Jersey played a scoreless opening period. The visiting Titans scored 9:56 into the middle stanza when a strong cycling play created a chance from the slot that eluded Sea Captains netminder Brendan Pellerito. New Jersey added goals 1:48 and 9:05 into the third period to nail down the 3-0 win.

Norwich Head Coach Kevin Cunningham said “New Jersey deserves a ton of credit for playing with a playoff level of intensity throughout the weekend, but especially tonight. Their passion was evident every single shift. Unfortunately, our attention detail was lacking tonight and the Titans used their strong play to earn an important win for them. I tip my cap to their players and staff.”

The Sea Captains will open the Fraser Cup Playoffs on Thursday, March 9 when they travel to Danbury to face the Jr Hat Tricks in Game One of the East Division Semifinal series. Games Two and Three, if necessary, of the series will be played in Norwich at the RoseGarden on Friday, March 10 and Saturday March 11 at 2 PM and 5:45 PM, respectively. Ticket information for the home games during the series will be announce on Monday, March 6.
