Sea Captains Blanked by Generals

Nov 23, 2021

The Norwich Sea Captains fell to the Northeast Generals 5-0 Tuesday afternoon, November 23 in North American 3 Hockey League action at the RoseGarden Ice Arena. The game was physical throughout and saw both teams have players ejected in a contentious third period. Payton Felix scored two shorthanded goals to springboard the Generals’ offense and Mason Joseph made twenty saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Felix took a turnover and streaked through the neutral zone to open the scoring with the Generals down a man at the 6:38 mark of the first period. The second period saw the visitors find the back of the net four more times against Norwich netminder Andrew Yocum.

Brendan Pellerito relieved Yocum to start the third period and kept the Northeast offensive attack at bay in the final twenty minutes. There was still plenty of action as three different altercations kept the referees busy and penalty boxes full.

Head coach Kevin Cunningham said. “I thought we were very good for the first five or six minutes or so. We generated some quality chances and the game went back and forth, then we turned a puck over and Northeast capitalized. After the Generals scored the energy of the game changed and Andrew Yocum had to be very good, which he was. Northeast’s pressure and transition offense allowed them to extend their lead throughout the second period. I was pleased with our compete and willingness to play hard for each other in the third period. While the result was not what we wanted, we did show a lot of the characteristics that we want to display as a team.”

The Sea Captains have a short break for the Thanksgiving holiday and then return to play on Thursday, December 2 when they travel to New Jersey to play the Titans at 12:30 PM. Norwich’s next home game will be an exhibition game against the Westfield State University Owls ACHA team on Saturday, December 4 at 6:50 PM.
