Sea Captains Announce February Players of the Month

The Norwich Sea Captains are pleased to announce their February Players of the Month presented by Joshua’s Worldwide.

Forward

Brian Essing (2003 / Trumbull, CT) – Essing tallied eight points on the strength of three goals and five assists in nine February games. Two of his three goals were game winners. The first was on February 2 in a 2-1 win over Long Beach and the second was in a 4-1 win over Bay State on February 25. He also assisted on the game winning goal on February 17 when Norwich topped Bay State 3-0. Essing is the Sea Captains leading scorer on the season with 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points in 45 games.

Defenseman

Tim Hayden (2003 / New Fairfield, CT) – Hayden scored twice and assisted on three other goals to record five points in nine February games. He scored a power play goal and then assisted on another, which also proved to be the game-winner, in a 2-1 win over Long Beach on February 2. His goal against the Bay State Bobcats on February 26 proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory. On the season, Hayden leads the Norwich defensive corps in scoring with 9 goals and 18 assists for 27 points. 13 of those points have been on the power play, which is tied for the team lead.

Goaltender

Andrew Yocum (2002 / Saint Louis, MO) – Yocum recorded a 4-1-1-0 record in February while posted a 2.47 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in six starts. He earned wins against Long Beach on February 2 and 4 and defeated Bay State on February 17 and 25. On February 17 he made 13 saves to earn his third shutout of the season, which is a Norwich team record. On the season Yocum is 13-10-3-0 with a 2.60 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.
