Sea Captains Acquire Loftus

Aug 6, 2021

The Norwich Sea Captains are happy to announce that the team has acquired defenseman Sean Loftus from the Northeast Generals in exchange for the rights to Norwich’s fourth round pick in the 2021 North American 3 Hockey League Draft, Jacob Deitsch.  Loftus, a South Boston, MA native, is entering his third season in the NA3HL. He made his junior hockey debut with the New England Knights during the 2019-20 season recording a goal and four assists to total five points in 22 games. Loftus spent last season with the Generals where his steady defense helped lead the team to an East Division championship and an appearance in the Fraser Cup Playoffs.  He tallied a goal and dished out ten helpers over the course of 35 games with Northeast. In total, Loftus has recorded two goals and fourteen assists for sixteen points in 57 NA3HL games. Loftus is a 2021 graduate of the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science in Roxbury, MA where he was a member of the Tigers’ hockey team before his junior hockey career.

Loftus welcomed the move to Norwich saying, “I am excited to play in Norwich to take the next step in my hockey career as well as becoming a part of the growing hockey community in Eastern Connecticut.”

“I am very pleased to add Sean to our defensive corps. He is a player that I often noticed as an opposing coach as someone who does a lot of the little things right and plays a reliable game. I believe that his experience in the NA3HL will be key, as we expect to have a younger team. Sean can help light the way for his teammates. I am looking forward to working with Sean in Norwich!” said head coach Kevin Cunningham.

The Norwich Sea Captains will begin their inaugural season in the NA3HL in September, calling the RoseGarden Ice Arena home. Season ticket information will be available on Monday, August 30. Check our website and social media accounts for complete information then.
