Sachs Joins the Crew

The Norwich Sea Captains are excited to announce that 2001 defenseman Nicholas Sachs has signed a contract with the club for their inaugural season in the North American 3 Hockey League. The Raleigh, NC native brings three years of junior hockey experience to the Sea Captains. He split last season between the Maine Eclipse and the Motor City Hockey Club, recording three assists and fifteen penalty minutes in 23 total games. Sachs spent the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with the North Carolina Golden Bears. He appeared in 57 games for the Eastern Hockey League squad. Sachs is a responsible two-way defender who takes care of his end first, but the Norwich staff believes he can contribute some offensive punch as well.

“I elected to join the Sea Captains for many reasons. The coaching staff was highly recommended to me by people who I trust and after hearing about the plans for the inaugural season I was excited to head to Norwich. I was also drawn to the amount of exposure to college programs that players get playing in New England and I am confident that Coach Cunningham will help me progress toward my goal of being a college hockey player,” said Sachs on his decision to sign with Norwich.

Head coach Kevin Cunningham offered, “I am very happy to add Nick to our defensive corps. He brings experience, size and a strong compete level to our team. Nick played for a strong program rooted in development and strong values with the Golden Bears. His coaches there, including Paul Strand, raved about Nick as a player and a teammate. He has a true desire to continue his development and reach his goal of playing college hockey. I am looking forward to having Nick our our squad and working closely with him to help him continue his growth as a player and ultimately advance to college hockey.”

The Norwich Sea Captains begin their inaugural season in the NA3HL on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26 when they travel to the take on the Long Beach Sharks. They will play their home opener at the RoseGarden Ice Arena against the Bay State Bobcats on Saturday, October 2.
