Norwich Drops OT Decision to Bay State

Nov 12, 2021

There was nothing routine about the Bay State Bobcats’ 2-1 overtime victory over the Norwich Sea Captains. The game, which started on Wednesday afternoon, November 10, was the 100th North American 3 Hockey League game played by Sea Captains’ veteran forward Drew Schemmel. But, that was not the only occurrence that made this game unique. The RoseGarden Ice Arena lost power after the second due to an outage in the greater Norwich area, so the third period, and overtime, were played Friday evening in Holyoke, MA.

After a scoreless Bay State struck first midway through the second period when defenseman Reid Murray’s shot through traffic eluded Norwich goaltender Brendan Pellerito to give the visitors the lead. Teagen Beier knotted the game at one goal apiece with 3:55 left in the third period when snuck a backhander past the Bobcat netminder. Cam Hultin and Harrison Ranger assisted on the goal.

Early in overtime it looked like Norwich might break their winless streak, as they had a fantastic scoring opportunity in the first minute of play. However, they could not convert and the play transitioned the other way and Bay State found the winning marker off the stick of forward Landon Boothe.
