Aug 7, 2023

The Norwich Sea Captains of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are excited to announce that forward Andry Guy has made the decision to attend Bridgewater State University this fall to continue his academic and hockey careers. Guy joined the Sea Captains after a successful career at Sheehan High School. He recorded 33 points in 24 games during his senior season on the strength of 14 goals and 19 assists as the Titans advanced to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Division II semifinals. His standout play helped earn Guy a tender from the Norwich coaching staff. Guy was also a key starting pitcher on the Titan’s baseball team. The 2004 Wallingford, Connecticut native will major in Accounting and Finance at Bridgewater State and play for the Bears’ American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II hockey program. The Bears compete in the Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association against other teams throughout New England.

Guy appeared in 32 regular season games and one 2023 NA3HL Fraser Cup Playoff game during Norwich’s East Division Semifinal series against the Danbury Jr Hat Tricks. He potted seven goals and added three assists to total ten points in a Sea Captains uniform. His first period goal against the Bay State Bobcats on February 17 at the RoseGarden Ice Arena stood up as the game-winner in Norwich’s 3-0 victory. At the conclusion of the season Guy was presented with the Sea Captains’ Most Improved Player Award, as voted upon by his teammates and coaches, for his consistent development throughout the season.

“I decided to attend Bridgewater State University because of its reputation as a school that offers a great student experience paired with an outstanding education. I believe that the school is a perfect fit for me and will provide me with an environment where I will thrive. I am beyond thrilled to start this next chapter of my journey and I am extremely thankful for the experiences that I had in Norwich. My teammates and Coach Cunningham helped me gain a greater understanding of how my hard work and dedication will help me reach my goals. I would also like to thank my billet, Sarah Newton, for welcoming me into her home and supporting me so much throughout the season. I am excited to get to BSU and to play for Coach Monahan and the Bears!” explained Guy.

Norwich Head Coach Kevin Cunningham commented, “I am very happy for Andry that he has chosen to attend Bridgewater State and continue his hockey career with the Bears. Andry worked extremely hard throughout our season and earned the respect of every one of his teammates and our entire staff. He has a heavy shot and used it to score some very important goals for us during our run to the playoffs. I am thrilled for Andry and his family that he will continue his academic and athletic journey at BSU!”

Guy becomes the fifth member of the 2022-23 Norwich Sea Captains to announce his college commitment. He joins teammates Mason Friedrichs (Anna Maria – NCAA DIII), Jack Kinahan (Sacred Heart – ACHA DII) Brendan Pellerito (Western Michigan – ACHA DI), ) and Darrell Smith (Arkansas – ACHA DIII) as players advancing to college hockey next season.
