The Norwich Sea Captains of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are thrilled to announce that forward Blake Alexander has committed to attend Western Connecticut State University this fall to continue his academic and hockey careers. Alexander signed a tender with the Sea Captains during the spring of 2023. During his lone season in Norwich, Adams appeared in 48 games. He scored ten goals and added an assist to total eleven points on the season. The 2003 Mansfield, Connecticut native will major in Business Administration at West Conn and play for the Wolves’ American Collegiate Hockey Association Division (ACHA) III program. During the 2025-26 season, when Alexander would be in his sophomore year, the Wolves’ hockey program will be elevated to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III status and they will compete in the highly competitive Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).
Alexander netted goals in back to back games twice during the season. He potted Norwich’s only goal in a 5-1 loss to the eventual 2024 Fraser Cup Champion Helena Bighorns on December 19. Then, in the Sea Captains next game on January 5 Alexander registered a hat trick, leading his team to a 7-1 win over the New Jersey Titans. Alexander’s three goal effort earned him the Bauer NA3HL Star of the Week announced on January 9. He lit the lamp in back-to-back games again February 17 and 23 as Norwich topped the New Hampshire Mountain Kings and the New Jersey Titans, 5-3 and 8-1, respectively. The Sea Captains posted a 7-1 record in games when Alexander scored a goal.
Alexander discussed his decision to enroll at WCSU saying, “I chose Western Connecticut State University because of the Ancell School of Business. I intend to major in Business Administration and focus on Small Business and Entrepreneurial Management. I am currently in the process of establishing a landscape construction business and Western was the ideal fit to enable me to work through this process and develop a successful business for my future. I like the size and atmosphere of the campus. I am excited to get started on my education. I plan to work toward an opportunity to be a part of Western Connecticut’s inaugural NCAA Division III hockey team. I would be honored to be a part of that program.”
“I am very pleased for Blake and his family that he will be able to continue his academic and athletic careers at West Conn. I am confident that his nose for the net will enable him to be an asset to the hockey program. There is no doubt in my mind that Blake will continue to develop his game at the college level. I am also very happy that he will also be able to be immersed in an academic program that fits his needs so well,” stated Head Coach Kevin Cunningham.
Alexander becomes the seventh member of the 2023-24 Norwich Sea Captains to announce his college commitment. He joins teammates Erik Masengill (Maryville University), Jameson Bain (Western Michigan University), Sava Makarenko (Oswego State) Brian Essing (Manhattanville University), Chris Hamilton (Western Connecticut State University) and Sam Adams (Colorado State University) in advancing to college hockey next season. All college commitments are sponsored by Eastern CT Contracting.
