2022 Tender Recap

The Norwich Sea Captains of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are thrilled to announce that they have signed eight players to tender agreements during the spring of 2022. Tender agreements indicate a player’s intention to play for the team with which he signed during the following season. The 2022 tender group for the Sea Captains is comprised of three forward and five defensemen. All eight players will be on the 2022-23 Norwich roster.

Camden Bormes (2004 defenseman – Sparta, MI) – Bormes is a 2022 graduate of Northview (MI) High School where he was a member of the Wildcats’ hockey and tennis teams. He served as the hockey team’s captain during his senior season while netting 14 goals and dishing out 17 assists to tally 31 points in 25 games. For his performance on the ice, Bormes was named All- Conference as well as Honorable Mention All-State at the Division III level. His efforts in the classroom helped him earn All- State All- Academic honors in both hockey and tennis. In May, Bormes represented the Sea Captains at the North American Hockey League 18U Top Prospects Tournament where he played for the NAHL Combine team.

“Norwich seems like a great place for me to experience something different from home. it also seems like a great place to develop into a better player,” commented Bormes on his decision to play in Norwich.

Angelo Donzella (2003 forward – Bolzano, Italy) – Donzella graduated from the Canadian International Hockey Academy in 2022. He was the second leading scorer on the Voyageurs 18U team last season scoring seven goals and adding eight assists to total 15 points in 24 games. The Italian native will begin his fifth season playing in North America this season with the Sea Captains.

Donzella discussed his decision to play in Norwich this season saying, “I decided to head to Norwich this season after graduating from high school in Canada for a few reasons. The first is to further my development, the second is that playing in the United States has always been a big dream of mine and finally I am looking forward to meeting new people in the hockey world who can help me advance toward my goals. I cannot wait to get to Norwich and have a great season!”

Mitchell Goodman (2004 forward – Erie, CO) – Goodman graduated from Centaurus (CO) High School in May of 2022. He led the Warriors in goals with seven and was tied for second in points with eleven in 17 games during his senior season. He is also a longtime close friend of returning Sea Captains forward Jameson Bain.

“I knew that I wanted to play in Norwich after playing in the Chowder Cup for Coach Cunningham in 2021. I got to know some of the players on the team and it became clear to me that Norwich is a place that is focused on the players and their development, which was exactly what I wanted in a junior team,” said Goodman of his decision to join the Sea Captains.

Andry Guy (2004 forward – Wallingford, CT) – A 2022 graduate of Sheehan (CT) High School, Guy was a two-sport athlete for the Titans. On the ice he was the team’s third leading scorer. Guy netted 14 goals and assisted on 19 to record a total of 33 point in 24 games as Sheehan advanced to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (CIAC) Division II State Tournament Semifinals to cap his senior season. On the diamond, Guy was a key member of the Titans’ pitching staff as the baseball team also reached the CIAC State Tournament Class M Semifinals.

Guy was sold on Norwich right away. He said the following about his decision to join the Sea Captains, “I chose to play for the Norwich Sea Captains because I love the dedication and hard work that the staff bring to the program to help the players develop. I love the environment, the facility and the program as a whole feels like a family as soon as you walk through those doors.”

Chris Hamilton (2003 defenseman – Ridgefield, CT) – Hamilton is a 2022 graduate of Ridgefield (CT) High School. He capped an outstanding high school career by leading his Tigers team to the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) Championship and the CIAC Division I State Tournament Quarterfinals. Hamilton was recognized for his excellent play with numerous postseason awards including; All-FCIAC First Team, Connecticut High School Coaches’ Association (CHSCA) Division I All- State First Team and GameTimeCT All- State Second Team honors.

“I chose to play in Norwich this season because I wanted to continue playing the sport that I love at a good program with great people,” said Hamilton about joining the Sea Captains.

Erik Masengill (2003 defenseman – Coppell, TX) – Masengill is a 2002 graduate of Coppell (TX) High School. He capped his five year high school career with the Cowboys with an excellent two-way season that saw him finish second on his team in scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points in 14 games. Masengill also played the past four years with the Dallas Penguins who are members of the North American Prospects Hockey League. He appeared in four NA3hL games for the Oklahoma City Ice Hawks. Masengill was selected to play for Team Texas at America’s Showcase where his team reached the tournament’s semifinals.

Masengill explained his decision to join the Sea Captains saying, “In the search for the right place to further my hockey career, no other team from any league presented me with the environment, integrity and tools to help me get to the next level. Norwich was a very easy choice for me, but equally importantly, my parents as well.”

Shane Mazur (2003 defenseman – Wethersfield, CT) – Mazur graduated from Wethersfield (CT) High School in 2022. He completed an outstanding career with the Eagles on a magical run to the CIAC Division II State Championship in March. Mazur was a force in the playoffs, playing a vital role as his team seized the championship trophy. The postseason awards Mazur collected included; CHSCA Hobey Baker Award, CHSCA Division II All-Sate First Team and GameTimeCT All-State First Team honors. Mazur also played lacrosse for the Eagles.

“I chose to play in Norwich this year to develop my skills further as a player and to get the right coaching to help me get to the next level,” offered Mazur about his decision to join the Sea Captains.

Jimmy McManus (2004 defenseman – Ashburn VA) – A 2022 graduate of Bishop O’Connell (VA) High School, McManus was a member of the Knights’ hockey team. McManus developed his game playing his youth hockey for the Asburn Xtreme, one of the top Tier II youth programs in USA Hockey.

McManus discussed his decision to head to Norwich saying, “I chose to play in Norwich because I believe that it is a place that will help me develop and achieve my goals. I know that Norwich will be a place where I will be surrounded by people who have the same goals and mindset to develop and strive for team success as well.”

Head Coach Kevin Cunningham summarized his thoughts on the 2022 tender group by stating, “This is a fantastic group of players and young men that we are very excited to have join our program! Each brings a skillset and experiences that will help them to adjust to junior hockey and have success this season. They all bring a commitment to developing their games in a team environment that is focused on the process done right leading to the results that we all want. I was also thrilled that we were able to add some excellent local players who have had success playing Connecticut high school hockey to compliment the others from a wide variety of backgrounds. We believe that this diversity adds to the fabric of our team’s culture in a very positive way.”

The Norwich Sea Captains begin their second season in the NA3HL on Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24 when they host the New Jersey Titans at the RoseGarden Ice Arena.
