The Norwich Sea Captains are pleased to announce their January Players of the Month presented by Joshua’s Worldwide.
Jacob Begich (2003 / Soldotna, AK) – The Sea Captains rookie forward tallied eleven points in nine January games as Norwich recorded a 4-4-1-0 record during the month. Begich had four multipoint games, including a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Long Beach on January 7 and a two goal effort in a 6-5 overtime win over Danbury on January 20. Begich is the Sea Captains assist leader this season with 21. He has 30 points in 35 games played thus far.
Darrell Smith (2003 / Wichita, KS) – The second year Sea Captain defender had two points during the month of January and recorded an even rating as a key member of the Norwich blue line corps. His assist was on the game-winning goal as Norwich topped Long Beach 2-1 on January 14 and his goal gave the Sea Captains a third period lead in a 5-4 loss to Long Beach on January 28. On the season Smith has seven points on the strength of a goal and six assists.
Andrew Yocum (2022 / Saint Louis, MO) – The second-year goaltender recorded a 3-3 record in six appearances for the Sea Captains during January. He won three straight starts making 26 saves in a 2-1 win over Long Beach on January 14, 25 saves in a 2-1 win over Bay Sate on January 18 and 24 stops in a 6-5 overtime win over Danbury on January 20. Yocum leads the Sea Captains with nine wins and has recorded a 2.63 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.
